Today Jim Lovell, the commander of Apollo 13 and, along with his fellow astronauts Jack Swigart and Fred Haise the human who has been furthest from Earth, is 91.
Like I suspect many people, my main knowledge of Lovell comes from the Tom Hanks portrayal in Apollo 13. Reading around, the movie seems more accurate than most based-on-a-true-story films. Some of the tensions between the crew are manufactured for dramatic effect (something similar happened in a recent Danish film about the Kon Tiki expedition)
