A while back I was listening to a good bit of Fred Neil. Neil gave Bob Dylan his first gig and wrote “Everybody’s Talkin'”:
I suppose Harry Nilsson’s is more (and over) familiar, but Neil’s is fresher to my ears, more subtly melancholy, and a little less folksy. Neil features heavily in the early stages Dylan’s memoir “Chromicles” (the volume 1 bit is surely a tease?). In later years he abandoned the music scene to focus on his major love: dolphins.
